9 Civil Service Exam Strategies - Based on my Personal Experience of Passing in One Take

1. For those who have been asking - WALA PONG PATTERN sa Pagsagot.  Don't believe that there are patterns in answering the questions. During the exam, DO NOT TRY TO LOOK FOR A PATTERN. You will only waste your time.

2. When you review, focus on the coverage of the exam. Download this SAMPLE TEST and see for yourself what subjects are covered and how the questions are formatted and designed.

3. Make time for Quality Review. I have read somewhere na all it takes for you to master 1 skill is 20 hours of FOCUSED study.

For that, you have to practice answering - FASTWhen you do your practice tests, mag time-limit ka. 1 minute per question lang dapat. You have to be fast when reading and analyzing sentences to organize, paragraphs that come before the reading comprehension questions, and the math problems as well. Para maging mabilis ka, magpractice ka.

7. Be careful sa pagseshade kasi you can only change your answer ONCE per ITEM. Kapag nag-eexam, you can opt to answer first sa test booklet mo, bago ka magshade sa answer sheet mo.

8. Priority sa CSE ang Verbal, Numerical, and Analytical (or Clerical) competencies.

9. If you have the time, practice lang nang practice. You can find tons of practice questions online. Help yourself to pass and ask help from God as well. Make it a habit to Pray to God and BELIEVE in yourself. Wag ka panghinaan nang loob and just have faith. God will help those who help themselves.

Tricks in Answering Paragraph Organization Questions (Arranging Parajumbled Sentences)

One of the most challenging parts of the Civil Service Exam is the set of Paragraph Organization questions. More often than not, most examinees also find this to be the MOST TIME-CONSUMING since you will have to read several sets of five or six long sentences.  To lessen the difficulty of this part of the CSE, you should use this GOLDEN RULE - scan and USE YOUR OPTIONS. Use the choices as your guide as you go through the following TIPS and TRICKS in answering PARAGRAPH ORGANIZATION questions (or, as what others call it - Questions on Parajumbled Sentences) TRICK #1: Find the OPENING SENTENCE The opening sentence is usually - but not always - the MAIN TOPIC of the paragraph. That means all the other sentences either talk about it or simply support it. Ask yourself - what exactly is being talked about in this paragraph?  The opening sentence can also be an introduction. It may be a sentence which talks about something in general and then, all the other sent...

Question: Fred is 4 years older than Barney. Five years ago the sum of their ages was 48. How old are they now? Represent the AGES NOW: Barney’s age: x Fred’s age: x + 4 (Because he is 4 years older than Barney) Represent the AGES five years ago:  Barney = x - 5 Fred = x + 4 - 5 = x -1 Represent the equation:  Equation for the sum of their ages : x - 5 + x - 1 = 48 2x - 6 = 48 2x = 48 + 6 x = 54/2 or 27 ANSWER:  Barney is now 27. Fred = x + 4 = 27 + 4 = 31 now. CHECK:  5 years ago, Barney was 27-5 = 22 5 years ago, Fred was 31-5= 26 The sum of their ages was 22+26 = 48
